The United Kingdom has incorporated a new visa waiver system for the UK named eTA. Countries that form part of the EEA (European Economic Area) such as the Netherlands can apply online for a UK eTA or electronic travel authorization, which has the advantage of avoiding previous appointments at the embassy before travelling to the UK.
Read on to know more about the UK’s visa waiver available to Dutch travellers.
When Do Dutch Nationals Need an eTA to the United Kingdom?
The UK eTA for Dutch is thought for short visits related to tourism, business, studies, or medical issues.
The eTA visa waiver to the United Kingdom has a validity of 6 months since the date of entrance and allows Dutch nationals to stay up to 6 months in UK territory.
The travel document is a single-entry type of visa waiver, which means that if citizens of the Netherlands decide to enter the UK with it and then leave, they will need to apply for a new eTA to re-enter.
Depending on the main purpose and length of the trip, Dutch citizens might need to ask for different visa types to the UK, especially if those planned trips surpass the 6 months allowed via eTA and are related to paid work, long academic studies or permanent residency, for instance.
Important: the UK EVW is not the same as the UK eTA. The first one is reserved for certain Middle Eastern countries, while the second one is the option needed by Dutch visitors.
